FAQs

We are funded primarily by billing for service. When a patient is transported, we will bill whatever insurance they have including Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance.

Charges are based on rates authorized by the State Department of Public Health. These charges can vary depending on the type of transport and the length of the transport in miles.

In 2022, we received 1,037 ambulance calls. In 2023, we are on pace for more than 1000 calls.

We are required to transport to the nearest Emergency Department. Usually, this means Marlborough Medical Center or Middlesex Hospital. For serious trauma calls, we are required to transport patients to a trauma center such as Hartford Hospital or St. Francis Hospital. Other calls may require transport to a specific facility. We cannot transport to hospitals outside of the immediate area. Once your condition is stabilized in the emergency room, you can be transferred to the hospital of your choice if you need to be admitted.

We can only transport patients to a facility with an emergency room. For example we cannot transport to a doctor’s office, Dialysis facilities, or to the VA Hospital.
